The first quarter of 2017 sees the spectacular return of French black/death metal, thanks to the debut albums of three excellent bands: Ritualization, Necroblood and Goatvermin. The timing couldn’t be better as there exist strong rumors that Arkhon Infaustus, the local forefathers of that particular sound, are preparing their come-back with a new line-up after 7 years of hiatus.

Back to the album reviewed here, even though their band name and aesthetics may lead to confusion, Goatvermin from Franche-Comté are not your typical “goat metal” band. They’re way too good for that!

Re-releases of “best kept secret” type of old bands, usually package attractively mediocre quality content using 80’s/90’s nostalgia and vinyl fetishism.

Even when the music is good, most such bands were mere clones back at the day, therefore their (re-) discovery offers modest thrills.

INFESTER is the exception to the rule. If, like me, you’ve never heard them then you’re in for a big surprise!

Parisian old-school metal band NECROBLOOD have penetrated violently my musical microcosm back in 2011.

They have done so with the best credentials that an underground metal band could possibly have according to my book: a debut self-titled 7”EP released by Spikekult, the ground breaking undead record label of Antaeus/Aosoth frontman MkM – responsible for such seminal releases as DEMONCY’s “Joined In Darkness” original vinyl edition and ARKHON INFAUSTUS “Dead Cunt Maniac” 7”EP.

Pours into an oversized Cognac snifter. Deep reddish-brown colour with some ruby hues, and quite murky. Beige frothy head, which lingers ‘til the end with half a finger lacing.

A rather unusual -for a Quad- nose, a tad acidic, that reminds us of sweet vinegar, red grape, raisin, with some woody and alcoholic undertones, courtesy of the aging process. It wouldn’t be far-fetched to say it resembles a Lambic, but in a moderate way. Intriguing…

Titanfall 2 annihilated last fall’s F.P.S. competition (Call Of Duty: Infinite Warfare, Battlefield 1) in terms of gameplay experience, however it has failed commercially. That does not hinder us from properly enjoying it! Check out this gameplay video put together with the appropriate soundtrack courtesy of Dephosphorus!

Artisan fruitiness from New England: Haze IPA craft beer review

Pours into a teku. Bright orange colour, entirely cloudy, with a white frothy head, that reduces swiftly to a thin lacing, escorted by the so called “wine legs” (for the sake of it all, we could substitute the specific term with “barley wine legs”…), lingering until the end. The utterly non-transparent, impenetrable, “juicy” appearance arouses our curiosity about what’s to come in the taste department.
