NUCLEAR WINTER “Abomination Virginborn” CD review

I don’t recall exactly how many times I’ve written about this demo… Not enough! For those who’ve been on a coma for the last 13 years, “Abomination Virginborn”  is the most important Greek demo of the 00’s. It also is the recording who put Greek death metal in the map of the international underground, paving the way for the DEAD CONGREGATION phenomenon.

It comprises three timeless songs of dark, old-school death metal, soaked in the underground vibes of that era, and more specifically those emanating from Sweden. Indeed, NW were in contact and osmosis with the Swedish scene and bands such as Kaamos, Repugnant, Revokation, Insision (some of them have had releases on Nuclear Winter Records, the label of the band’s mastermind Anastasis Valtsanis).

However, the strongest link with the Swedish scene is the contribution of renowned underground artist Timo Ketola who, being a close friend of the band, has contributed not only the artwork but also the ucanny lyrics.

The band (R.I.P.) has chosen not to include any bonus tracks (eg. the two from the split-7″EP with INCRIMINATED) and righteously so, as the aura of the original release is thus preserved.

The 7″EP edition that was released back in December 2006 being sold-out for a number of years, as well as the cassette, don’t miss your chance to own a piece of underground history! Out now on Martyrdoom Productions.

“Dead Congregation”

Murmur of the semon fades away
stained glass windows fall… and crash

Howling barking pushing through
a horrified congregation
mothers covered eyes of children
while I rip their bowels

Skin removed, true self revealed,
so beauty so fucking rare
Find now the closed gates of gold,
your body reduced to waste

No longe lives the “lord” in me
but a million devils!
Tell your “lord” to bless
as I eat your face!

I recite sons of Abraham
each one a slave in Hell!
Let me hear you sing praise
my dead congregation!

About panos.agoros

Music and computers. The same two passions that Panos has ever since he was a kid, have defined the path that he would follow in life. He studied computer science in Paris-France in the early/mid 90's and is an IT engineer, providing since 1999 Mission Critiical support for enterprise environments. He is also known to be a retro hardware scavenger and old computer collector. His love for music pushed him to become actively involved in the scene. From November 1995 until the early 00's he ran Chaotik Webzine, a pioneering music webzine and the first to provide coverage for both the metal & hardcore underground. He is for the last 15 years an editor of Metal Hammer Greece, the biggest music magazine in the country. He rans a small record label and distro, Blastbeat Mailmurder, and is also the vocalist/lyricist of critically and fan acclaimed astrogrind outfit Dephosphorus. In his lost hours he does field recordings and manipulates sound waves for his experimental noise/ambient Kommpound.
